Experience the True Taste of Sri Lanka

About Us

From the owners of 5 Star Rangala Guest House in Sri Lanka, The Kandyan brings a truly authentic Sri Lankan dining experience to North Bristol.

Led by chef and co-owner Sam, the kitchen is rooted in tradition and guided by provenance. Many of the spices used in our dishes — including peppercorn, clove and mace — are grown in our own market garden in Sri Lanka’s upcountry, then carefully selected to ensure depth and balance.

Our flavours are built from the ground up. Curry powders are roasted in-house using a closely guarded family recipe, fresh coconut is used throughout, and every dish is cooked with the same care and techniques you’d find in a Sri Lankan home kitchen — refined through years of experience.

The result is food that’s bold, layered and unmistakably Sri Lankan.
Quite simply, there’s nowhere else in Bristol like The Kandyan.

What customers say about us

I went to The Kandyan restaurant in Bristol and was served a dish of Sri Lankan Hoppers and a cider with a main of the Sri Lankan Three curry deal which was lovely! The restaurant was very welcoming, polite and friendly. They have great Sri Lanka music playing in the restaurant and I really enjoyed all of it!! A great place to go for food In Bristol! Very highly recommend!!

We had a brilliant date night at the Kandyan this week. The chicken thigh starter was crispy but succulent, crunchy lamb samosas and we both couldn't resist the chicken kottu!! Service was very friendly and felt like a home from home. We'll be back for the rest of the menu.
